International School of Chemometrics - 2024
ISC - 2024 is Fully Booked!
But there are some scattered spots in some seminars (PROGRAMMING is always open).
If you want to come, please write an
 e-mail to ischemometricshelp@gmail.com

ISC-2024 is what you need for learning Chemometrics (Machine Learning in Sciences): FOUR-week school designed to introduce different key aspects of Data Science and Machine Learning in different branches of science (chemistry, food & feed, physics, environmental, political economics, etc).

ISC-2024 is open to everybody: Addressed to BSc, MSc, PhD students/post-docs, associate professors, etc. who want to acquire or refresh basic knowledge on multivariate data analysis from different disciplines. It is also addressed to researchers working in industry or research laboratories wanting to implement multivariate data analysis in their daily research environment.

ISC-2024 is an intensive school: Held in four consecutive weeks (one of them not physically present) structured in different seminars/modules where the students will be more than welcome to work with their own data together with high-qualified teachers.

Meeting worldwide recognized experts in an open discussion forum environment: ISC-2024 counts on teachers that are well-recognized experts in chemometrics and multivariate data analysis in their respective fields. This, at the same time, will offer the possibility of opening new collaborative frameworks between students and teachers.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN SCHOOL. ISC-2024 is made of independent seminars!!! The students can choose to attend the seminars which they consider more relevant for their research. There is no minimum of seminars that the student must attend.

Dates: From the 13th of May until the 7th of June, 2024

Place: University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Frederiksberg Campus.

Online: With the exception of the PROGRAMMING WEEK, that is based on pre-recorded videos (see description below), no online teaching is offered this year. The lessons will be only physically present.

Seminars:
This is a brief description of the seminars at ISC-2024. For further details, see below

1 - PROGRAMMING - Introduction to Programming for Multivariate data analysis in Matlab, Python and R
This online seminar is based on online pre-recorded videos that are thought to be an introduction to the main aspects of dealing with Matlab, R and Python focused on Multivariate Data Analysis.

2 - BASIC - Basic Introduction to Chemometrics and Linear Algebra
This seminar includes two parts. EXPLORE and LINAL. A basic introduction to Chemometrics. Data types, PCA, pre-processing, Multivariate Regression, and Linear Algebra focused on Chemometrics.

3 - INTERMEDIATE:
This seminar includes three parts. DoE, Design of Experiments; VARSEL, variable selection methods; MCR, Multivariate Curve Resolution.

4 - DL - Non-Linear Modeling / Deep Learning
This seminar includes two parts. Methods for Non-linear modeling and the different architectures of Artificial Neural Networks (basic structures, shallow neural networks and deep neural networks.

5 - CLASS - Linear and Nonlinear Classification Methods
This new seminar will join the classical linear classification methods (LDA, SIMCA, PLS-DA) with more advanced approaches like Support Vectors Machine (SVM), Random Forests (RF) and Self-Organized Maps Neural Networks for classification purposes.

6 - DF - Data Fusion

The seminar will deal with the chemometric approaches for integrating (“fusing”) data from different sources. We will learn the different strategies for fusing data, analyzing it, and interpreting the results.

7 - MW - Multiway Data Analysis
Methods like parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and PARAFAC2 will be studied and applied to different examples.-Simultaneous Component Analysis.

8 - GLUE (How not to make Chemometrics) and WORKSHOP

We will take a very close look at all the most common mistakes that even experienced people will do when doing multivariate analysis. We will cover exploration, calibration, interpretation, visualization and many other subjects. And always with a focus on what is the most common problem as well as a sounder alternative.

Workshop: Any student of the School will be able to ask whatever question remaining from any seminar. Also, there will be time to work on your own data and check with us on the analysis workflow.

Grants!!!

ISC-2023 will offer TWO student grants. The grant covers the ENTIRE fee of the School. It is open to any student at any level (BSc, MSc or Ph.D.). The requirements are easy. Send us an e-mail with the following information:
- Certificate of studentship from your institution.
- A one-page document explaining why you need to join us in the School.

Best Poster Award!!!

In order to foment collaboration between us and interchange ideas, CSC-2023 will include different poster sessions. Therefore, I would like to invite you to submit an abstract to the school. The abstract and poster are intended to promote the interchange of ideas between us, students and teachers.

The work does NOT NEED to be original. It can be original, or it could have been presented at another conference. It can perfectly be an abstract that expresses your worries or doubts about an experiment that you want to perform.

Any School Student can bring a poster (University member or Private)!

1) The abstract:
- It should not be longer than 2 A4 pages, including figures, tables and references.
- The language must be English and formatted in Times New Roman, 11 pt. with 1.5 line space.
- It must be submitted in pdf

2) The poster:
- It must be in A3 size. I know that this is not a normal size for a poster. Nevertheless, we have very limited extra space.

Best poster award: The winner will receive the return of the complete fee of the seminars that s/he has attended.
